SOLUTIONS TO KEEPING HEAT OUT
Stop the sun’s rays from penetrating through glass
With many windows facing either directly east or west, the best way to manage heat is to stop the sun’s rays from actually entering your home or business premises. You can still retain your beautiful view or let light in. There are lots of great options available depending on your priorities.
Choose external window coverings including traditional awnings, external mesh blinds, external venetians or external plantation shutters.
Reduce glare, retain view
Use mesh fabric for external blinds, external Venetians or plantation shutters with tilting louvres
Protect furniture, artwork and flooring
All external window shading products will offer protection. Maximise their effectiveness by closing them during the sunniest part of the day.
External blinds or shutters work best for keeping the heat from penetrating through glass. If that is not an option, light colours do a better job of reflecting heat than dark. Look for fabrics with light backings, block out or sunscreens that are dark one side and light the other. The thicker the window covering, the better the thermal blanket. Plantation shutters, lined curtains and lined roman blinds are the most heat effective solution.
We have run a comparison study across a number of window coverings and worked out a rating system for their effectiveness. Click here to view.
